Chips Deluxe Rainbow

The Chips Deluxe Rainbow made by Keebler would rate 3.5 Kisses for me. I enjoyed the Cookie, however it is simply a "wilder" version of a chocolate chip cookie. The color is great but not sure of the added benefit of the candy coat.

Price: 2 Kisses...Found at most local stores (at least in this area) it ranges from $3.89 to $4.10. About average for a "name brand" cookie. A bit high to just munch in my mind.

Package: 3.5 Love those little Keebler guys! Lots of color and "modern" clean look

Taste: 3 Kisses As I said a good cookie but nothing great - just a glorified chocolate chip cookie.

Good Doing: minus numbers, nothing obvious are they giving back to the community/world...However I must say I have not checked into the Keebler web site.

This is a milk cookie to me...I did find myself going at this one while it sat in the cookie jar with others...so it ranks high for a general grab and go. Dunking in milk is an added joy.

The "BLACK & WHITE"

This cookie is a classic that I think everyone should try at least once. A lot of this cookies worth can be based on tradition and ambiance..."where" you eat your first one can make a HUGE difference...so if you get the opportunity to visit NEW YORK CITY, getting a BLACK & WHITE from a local bakery should be on your list of MUST DO's...along with a canolli from Ferraro's, a slice from L&B, Chicken Parm with ziti-Sicilian-Style from Lenny and Paul's in Brooklyn, and good ol' fashion piece of NY Cheesecake, and of course - an everything bagel from just about any corner bagel shop.....UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMM! You won't regret your efforts to seek out any and all of these New York City wonders....But I digress...Let's get back to the COOKIE...That being said...

"LET THE RATING BEGIN!"
My cookie of choice this time will be:

THE "BLACK & WHITE"
This cookie gets:"5 COOKIE KISSES"

Here are the details:

VALUE = 5 COOKIE KISSES ***** - These cookies are usually found at an authentic, good ol' fashion bakery...so the price is competitive...and...the cookie is HUGE! Mine measured a solid 6" in diameter.

PACKAGING = 5 COOKIE KISSES ***** - Coming from a bakery or specialty store...there isn't any unnecessary packaging.

GIVING BACK = 5 COOKIE KISSES***** If you ever watched the show "Seinfeld," you probably remember an episode that featured a "BLACK & WHITE." It was claimed that this cookie was a perfect example for us to look to for race relations. Black and white...different, but in harmony...a balanced sensation bringing out the best in each other. I have to say...if the BLACK & WHITE is able to instill that kind of philosophy and taste so good and the same time...Well, that makes the BLACK & WHITE one AMAZING cookie! :)

TASTE = 5 COOKIE KISSES ***** - My first BLACK & WHITE was from a bakery in Little Italy in New York City. Of course the taste was outstanding! The cookie I just had last night was great too. What does it taste like? Well...soft, sponge cake-like shortbread with a hint of lemon is iced with vanilla and chocolate fondant...so it is crisp. YUMMMMMMM...I'm making myself want one right now!

NOTES: This shortbread makes this cookie the perfect TEA or coffee cookie. The neat 1/2 &
1/2 vanilla and chocolate icing make the simple shortbread EXTRAVAGANT!

THE CLASSIC OREO

Well at least I'm covering the basics right off...and this is what I had on hand. Which is amazing considering the life-span on an OREO in this house is short if my husband knows they are around. That being said...

"LET THE RATING BEGIN!"
My cookie of choice this time will be:

THE CLASSIC
CHOCOLATE CREME FILLED OREO
The average rating that this cookie gets is:
"5 COOKIE KISSES"

Here are the details:

VALUE = 5 COOKIE KISSES ***** - Regular priced these cookies are about $4.00 + tax. There are three rows or chocolatety goodness! These cookies have that new "Easy Pull - Snack n' Seal" container designed to keep my cookies fresh for eating later...which is never a problem in this house!

PACKAGING = 5 COOKIE KISSES ***** - Who doesn't know what an OREO package looks like?!? and...the handy "Snack n' Seal" tab is nice - I don't have to take them out and put them in a container to keep them fresh.. The packaging is pretty standard and has been the same as long as I can remember...keeps the cookies from crumbling and not too much plastic or paper waste.

GIVING BACK = 0 COOKIE KISSES! (boo! hissss!) As I mentioned before...I went to Nabisco's website and took a look around and didn't see that they are actively involved in any sort of "GIVING BACK" promotions right now.....but, in light of the fact thatOREOS have been the best selling cookie of the 20th century and have been around since 1912...I will cut them a break!

BUT...if we really want to find a way to give them some "cookie points" we can mention that they do make a SUGAR FREE OREO, a LOW FAT & a LOW CALORIE COOKIE! I guess that we could give them some credit for helping fight the "battle of the bulge!"

TASTE = 5 COOKIE KISSES ***** - Of course...OREOS are wonderful! One of my favorite things is the wonderful aroma that drifts up to your nose as soon as you open the package! All your senses are involved and that is a GREAT thing!

NOTES: There is nothing like a tall glass of cold milk and an OREO cookie! EVERYONE should have the experience...it is a CLASSIC COOKIE!

...and honestly, who of us doesn't know the O.R.E.O jingle - or some version of it!

"O-O-O-Ice Cold Milk and an OREO Cookie, They forever go together, What a Classic Combination, when a dark, delicious Cookie Meets an icy, cold sensation, like the one and only, Creamy, Crunchy, Choc-o-late, O-R-E-O!"

ALL POINTS BULLETIN - Can you help find a recipe???

After a friend of mine came here to visit the cookie site....she sent me an email and shared with me a quest that she was on....she is looking for a specific cookie recipe....and so I am soliciting everyones help...

ALL POINTS BULLETIN
HAVE YOU SEEN or DO YOU HAVE a recipe for:
***MONSTER COOKIES***
Here's what she can remember - "The recipe called for a dozen eggs and a pound of butter and 6 (?) cups of peanut butter and oats... And then you could add chocolate chips or nuts or M&M's. It was like all your favorite cookies rolled into one. And it made a huge batch so you could freeze some dough for later."

If you have this recipe or can tell us where to find it, please post a comment or feel free to contact us at cookiecritique@yahoo.com

Thanks! COOKIE ON! ~Cookie Cruncher

A little ditty about cookies...

The COOKIE POEM
by Autumn Stinton 4/16/2008

Cookies dancing in my head…
Looking for cookies at midnight I leave my bed.

But not just under the cover of night…
I search for cookies every day with all my might.

It doesn’t matter what I find…
It makes no difference, I’ll probably eat most any kind.

I turn to cookies when I’m sad…
Even the worst cookie out there isn’t so bad.

There are so many to try and taste…
I really don’t think there is a moment left to waste.

So join me in my cookie crusade…
I’m on a quest to taste the best cookie ever made!

Chips Ahoy - CHEWY

So this is my first cookie for review as "COOKIE CRUNCHER":
"LET THE RATING BEGIN!"
My first cookie will be:

CHIPS AHOY! CHEWY
(in the red bag) by NABISCO

The average rating that this cookie gets is:

"2.5 COOKIE KISSES"

Here are the details:

VALUE = 3 COOKIE KISSES *** - Regular priced these cookies are $4.49 + tax. Despite the fact that they come in a handy "Easy Pull - Snack n' Seal" container designed to keep my cookies fresh for eating later...I think the value to quality ratio isn't all that great. Over-priced? I think so...There were 32 cookies in the package, BUT, I was sad when I peeled back the tab to find these cookies were pretty small. (see my photo above)

PACKAGING = 3 COOKIE KISSES *** - The RED color did grab my eye, and the handy "Snack n' Seal" tab was a nice touch. I didn't have to take them out and put them in a container to keep them fresh....and there wasn't an over-abundance of plastic or paper waste...I give the packaging a 5 (standard) for eco-aware packaging. I will say that I found one of the printed statements on the bag to be quite humorous....right on the front it says "REAL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES." What exactly should I take that to mean on a bag of chocolate chip cookies??? "REAL" vs. the FAKE ones that you can buy???? Makes you wonder!!!!

GIVING BACK = 0 COOKIE KISSES! (boo! hissss!) I went to Nabisco's website and took a look around and didn't see that they are actively involved in any sort of "GIVING BACK" promotions right now...and for that I will dock them! There are so many easy ways for big corporate America to lend a helping hand.

TASTE = 3 COOKIE KISSES *** - These are average. The chocolate was good, but I'm not so sure that the word "CHEWY" was well represented....I think these were more "SOFT" than chewy. But over all the taste was what I expected.

NOTES: These aren't what I would call a MILK COOKIE. I don't think it would be the kind of cookie that you would "dunk" either...I think if you dunked these, they would turn into "goo." I enjoyed mine with a COKE...but any soda would do!

COOKIE ON!

I am "COOKIE CRUNCHER"...

I am so excited about this BLOG! Kudos to Denise...(known in these parts as CRUNCHY CRITTER)...this was her idea...and I think it is GREAT!

The way this idea developed is kinda cool. After a weekend of challenges, a weekend of stress, a weekend that seemed to wear us both down. Denise and I found ourselves taking solace in each other's company over the phone. This time to listen, commiserate and share is something that I treasure. But this time, it seemed that we were both facing obstacles that seemed too large to conquer. I think it is safe to say that we were both feeling at our wits end. I recall making the statement that I just didn't know what to do anymore. And then I said, "I'm just want to sit down on the floor and eat a whole box of cookies!"

I think that says a LOT! Food provides comfort. And while we all have our favorite comfort foods...chocolate, fries, chicken soup, mom's apple pie, Taco Bell....the options are limitless. BUT...I would venture a guess that you would be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't like one type of cookie or another.

COOKIES - There are so many varieties. A cookie here, a tea biscuit there...the types, shapes, flavors, sizes, ingredients, packaging, recipes and variations available are mind boggling. Not only do they vary from home to home, but store to store, and region to region...not to mention country to country...

My friend Denise is great about trying new things and making sure that she is incorporation something out-side her comfort zone to keep her life "spicy." So she recommended we apply this to something frivolous and fun...COOKIES!

And so we share a lifetime quest...To try, share and critique COOKIES! With an open mind....but I seriously don't know that I need all that much convincing.

AND SO...WE MUNCH...WE TASTE...WE INDULGE...WE FIND JOY IN:

COOKIES!
